TYLER (KYTX)- Hundreds of East Texans filled Liberty Hall on Sunday for the premiere of “Little Hope Was Arson,” a new documentary based on the infamous 2010 church fires.
“Today is about the community and a lot of folks who survived these fires and went through this, today is about learning more of the story,” Film Producer Trenton Waterson said.

Though Waterson isn’t from East Texas, he’s learned a lot about the community through the film-making process.
“I’ve learned that this is a special community, they love their families, they love each other and there’s a lot of forgiveness,” Waterson said.
Forgiveness is what the parents of the two convicted arsonists, Jason Bourque and Daniel McAllister, are hoping for.
“Yes what the boys did was bad, can’t deny that, but need a little bit of forgiveness, that’s what the lord tells us to do,” Daniel McAllister’s father Billy David McAllister said.
Along with the screening of the movie, the filmmakers hosted a question and answer session moderated by CBS 19’s Gillian Sheridan.
That’s where Jason Borque’s family asked for help.

“They are human beings, they are remorseful, they are sorry for what they have done, so why ruin their whole lives?” Jason’s mother Kimberly Borque said.
They want Jason’s sentenced reduced and they want help doing it.
As for the filmmakers, they hope to inspire something in the community.
“What we really hope is that this film shows what we’ve learned about the community by providing closure to this story but also starting conversation,” Waterson said.
Starting a conversation is exactly what they did.
