Laird Hill — It was a night to remember for Leverett’s Chapel seniors Kory Burks, Paco Chavez and Dante Byerly as the Lions (9-1, 2-0) defeated Apple Springs (4-5,0-2) 53-8 to win a district championship.

The game was called with 9:17 left in the third quarter due to the 45-point mercy rule.

This is the first district championship for the Lions since they started playing Six Man football ten years ago and is also the first time the Lions enter the playoffs with an 8-1 mark.

The Lions were led by senior Chavez’ three rushing TD’s to finish with 147 yards on eight carries. Chavez was also perfect throwing as he completed three passes for 69 yards.

Colby Shaw scored three times — once on a fumble recovery that he picked up and ran it in from the 15 yard line, on a 41-yard pass reception Chavez and on a four-yard run. Keaton Vaughan also scored twice on a 25-yard pass from Brady George and a 46-yard run.

The LC defense held the Eagles to only 59 total yards and just one first down on the night, and one score on a broken play.

LC will begin the playoffs against Savoy at a time and place still to be determined.
