JACKSONVILLE — Lindale jumped out to a big lead and scored a 38-15 upset of Jacksonville in a District 16-5A football game on homecoming night Friday at the Tomato Bowl.

The win was Lindale’s first in league play — the Eagles are now 2-4 overall, 1-2 in District 16-5A while Jacksonville (3-3, 0-3) lost its third-straight tilt after opening the year 3-0.

The Indians and Whitehouse are now the only teams in the league without a district win.

Lindale’s Ryan Taylor had a career night, carrying 29 times for 291 yards and one touchdown.

Eagle quarterback Kam Neely went 10 of 15 through the air for 90 yards with a pair of scoring strikes. Both of those TD tosses went to Andrez Lee-Alvarez and covered 14 and 22 yards.

Lee-Alvarez tallied three catches for 43 yards in the game and added 59 yards rushing to finish the game with 102 all-purpose yards.

He also rushed for 9-yard score in the third quarter.

Lindale place kicker Jordan Lawless was perfect on the evening, hitting on all five of his point after touchdown attempts and booted through a 42-yard field goal as time expired in the first half for a 24-0 lead.

Jacksonville scored its first points of the night with 10:54 to play in the third quarter when Indian quarterback Carter McCown called his own number on a 12-yard run.

Following the Jorge Rios PAT, the Lindale lead had been trimmed to 24-7.

The Indians’ remaining points came with 3:35 to go in the game when Ja’Moderick Taylor plunged in from two yards out.

McCown was successful on the 2-point conversion effort, which turned out to be the game’s final points.

Despite being under heavy pressure all night as a result of Lindale winning the battle in the trenches, McCown was able to complete 8 of 23 passes for 134 yards. He also was picked off twice. McCown was his team’s leading rusher, carrying 16 times for 94 yards.

Datavian Thacker added 59 yards rushing on nine scampers for the Indians.

Nacogdoches visits Jacksonville next Friday, while Lindale plays host to Lufkin.

NOTES: Prior to the start of the game Fernanda Garcia was crowned as homecoming queen, while Emilio Chavira was elected as the school’s homecoming king. Both are seniors.
