LC GETS IN WIN COLUMN

Our correspondent, the Rev. Edwin Findley said it took longer for the Leverett’s Chapel Lions’ team bus to travel from Laird Hill to Karnack than it did to play the game Saturday night.

The Lions scored a 73-19 win over the Indians and the game was called at halftime due to the mercy rule in six-man football. Rev. Findley said the game lasted one hour and 15 minutes.

“It takes about that long to travel one way from Karnack to Laird Hill,” he said.

Colby Shaw led the Lions with five TDs on five touches. He scored three in the first quarter and two in the second. Shaw rushed for 101 yards on four carries; his other TD was a 70-yard kickoff return.

“Colby is a tough kid,” LC coach Matt Everett said. “He runs the ball hard; the last two years he has been leading our defense but this year we moved him over to offense.”

Brady George threw two TD passes — 25 yards to Paco Chavez and 2 yards to Matthew Overman.

Keaton Vaughan also scored for the Lions on a 12-yard dash.

Defensively, David Warner had three interceptions, one of which he returned for a TD from 35 yards. He added a fumble recovery. Also, Blake Myrick had eight tackles while Billy Hall had five unassisted tackles.

Gavino Baldazo was 4 of 8 on extra points. Each kicked extra point is worth two points in six man football.

Taja Sanders scored for the Indians on kickoff returns of 62 and 60 yards. Their other score was a 34-yard pass from Bayce Barr to Carrington Love.

Leverett’s Chapel is on the road again this week, traveling to Athens on Saturday to meet Athens Christian Prep. Kickoff is 10:30 a.m.
