La Grange stops Van

AUSTIN — La Grange held off a Van rally as the Lady Leopards scored a 7-3 win over the Lady Vandals on Saturday in the Class 3A state softball championship at Red & Charline McCombs Field.

La Grange (40-2) won its second state softball championship.

The Lady Vandals (31-6-1) also finished runner-up in 2006.

The Lady Leopards broke out to a 6-0 lead before Van plated three runs in the fifth inning. But that was as close as the Lady Vandals could get.

Jordain Castillo led Van with a 2 for 3 day at the plate, along with an RBI. Hallee Carter was 1 for 4 with a two-RBI double. Also adding hits were Kylee Moore, Haleigh Moore and Sierra Nichols.



Kristy Bertsch led the Lady Leopards with a 2 for 3 day, including three RBIs. Blake-Ann Fritsch was 3 for 4 with an RBI.

Marissa Zoch got the win in the circle to finish the season 31-0. Autumn McKinney took the loss to conclude the season at 16-4.

A crowd of 1,294 were in attendance.
