Lindale senior gets scholarship

Lindale High School senior Dylan Bacon is this year’s recipient of the $500 scholarship from the Delta Waterfowl Smith County Chapter.
Bacon plans to attend Texas A&M University-Commerce and major in agricultural sciences with the goal of becoming a teacher, according to a news release about the award.

During high school, Bacon participated in FFA, band and UIL Academic competitions, winning awards in all of those areas.
He also participated in National Honor Society, student council, the Strike It Rich Clogging Team and earned the Eagle Scout Award.
With a GPA greater than 4.0, he is ranked 35th out of almost 300 students in his graduating class.
Bacon is the seventh recipient of this scholarship, which is made possible by Delta’s Waterfowl Heritage Fund.
Delta Waterfowl is committed to strengthening North America’s waterfowl hunting culture through its mentored hunting program, public policy and advocacy work, according to the local chapter.
Their vision is to secure the future of waterfowl and waterfowl hunting across North America, according to the chapter.

Delta Waterfowl’s chapter and events system is unique in that local chapters can invest or direct the spending of 25 percent of event proceeds each year, according to a statement about the scholarship.
With these funds, the Smith County Chapter has awarded an annual $500 scholarship to a local high school student, provided an annual youth hunter education course free of charge to more than 100 youth in the area, implemented a wood duck box program for area youth, and offered youth hunts in partnership with Delta’s First Hunt Program, according to the chapter.
