UPDATE: Rusk man, 22, dies from injuries after being found in ditch

UPDATE: Family members confirmed to CBS 19 that Xavier Lang passed away Wednesday night. They said his body was sent for autopsy to better determine the nature and origin of his injuries. Rusk Police said the investigating lieutenant was not available Thursday morning to comment on how Lang’s death impacts the investigation.A fund has been set up to help pay for Lang’s medical and funeral bills. It’s in the name of Xavier Lang at Austin Bank. Family members will also be placing collection jars at stores around Cherokee County.

RUSK (KYTX) — A young man is in critical condition at an East Texas hospital after being found unconscious in a ditch in Rusk.

A passerby called police after seeing 22-year-old Xavier Lang laying alongside Underwood Street behind the McDonald’s around 8:30 Tuesday night.

Investigators said it was not clear how Lang had been injured, adding that it remained under investigation as of Wednesday afternoon.

Lang’s family spoke with CBS 19 Wednesday indicating that they found his injuries suspicious, having been told that he jumped from a moving truck. They said they were forced out of the hospital by Lang’s wife of one month Wednesday afternoon.
