NACOGDOCHES — Stephen F. Austin State University basketball fans and alumni from around the country are setting up watch parties for this weekend’s historic clash between SFA and Virginia Commonwealth University at the NCAA San Diego regional. Lumberjacks living and working in the Tyler area can watch the game at Buffalo Wild Wings, 7916A S. Broadway Ave.

Tip-off for the Lumberjacks’ second-ever appearance in the Big Dance is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Friday Central Standard Time. “These are not official alumni-hosted events, but we will have Alumni Association Board members or volunteers at the events,” said Craig Turnage, executive director of alumni relations at SFA. “We encourage all Lumberjack alumni to join in this celebration of the success of the SFA basketball team.”

SFA is making just its second NCAA Tournament appearance in program history. The last time the ‘Jacks earned a berth in the NCAA Tournament was in 2009 when they fell to Syracuse in the South regional in Miami. Friday’s game against VCU will be the first-ever meeting between these two basketball teams.
