Houston Baptist takes advantage of TC mistakes

HOUSTON —Houston Baptist used three Texas College first-half turnovers to jump to an early lead and score a 49-7 victory Saturday night before 2,091 fans at Strake Jesuit Crusader Stadium.
For the game, the Steers had six turnovers.
B.J. Kelly led the Huskies with 111 yards rushing and a TD on 16 attempts.
Quarterback Curtez Griffen paced the Steers. He rushed for 43 yards and a TD on 15 attempts. He also hit on 12 of 23 passes for 115 yards. Griffen scored on a 3-yard run and Erick Triqueros booted the PAT.
Ja’Marius Allen had four catches for 30 yards to lead the Steers, while Michael Sidberry had three receptions for 14 yards. Jamaal Johnson hauled in a 48-yard pass.
Defensively, Jeremy McMillan had 10 tackles, while Norman Thompson added seven for the Steers.
Texas College (1-7) will host Southwestern Assemblies of God University on Saturday at Trinity Mother Frances Rose Stadium. Kickoff is 2 p.m.
