REL competing in regional cross country meet

The Robert E. Lee cross country team will compete Saturday in the Class 5A Region II meet at Lynn Creek Park at Joe Pool Lake in Grand Prairie.
Senior Abby Halbrook is a four-time district champion and now looks to add state meet competitor to her resume. Halbrook finished just shy of qualifying for state last year, ending up 16th at the regional meet.
It is her fourth-straight regional appearance and the first time both the Lee boys and girls teams have qualified for regionals in three years.
The REL girls enter as District 12-5A champs with the Lee boys qualifying by finishing third at district.
The 5A varsity girls 5K race is scheduled to begin at 8:45 a.m. with the boys’ 5A 5K race slated to start at 9:10 a.m.
The Lady Raiders’ expected to participate (with their district time) are Abby Halbrook (18:57.18), Mary Neal (19:06.91), Claire Carnes (20:59.31), Megan Ybarra (21:08.66), Claire Newberry (21:11.66), Erica Overmeyer (21:38.53) and Lauren Lyons (23:28.72).
The Red Raiders’ expected to participate (with their district time) are Ian Estrada (16:37.50), Isaiah Davison (17:21.44), David McCook (17:23.84), William Shelton (17:52.44), Phillip White (18:12.94), Aziel Cornelio (18:24.78) and Shafen Borah (18:29.03).
