Lindale boys win 16-4A cross country crown

JACKSONVILLE — With Jerrey Watson leading the pack by nearly a minute, Lindale claimed the District 16-4A boys cross country meet by a single point over Jacksonville on Saturday.

Watson finished in 16 minutes, 12 seconds, well ahead of second-place Jerry Romano of Jacksonville (17:04) and the rest of the pack. The Eagles finished with 49 points to 50 from the Indians.

Jacksonville did claim the team victory in the girls race, with second-place Tempestt Silvers pacing her team. Whitehouse’s Chayne Atwood finished first in 19:09.

Nacogdoches was 14 points behind Jacksonville’s 37 for second place, followed by Whitehouse (53), Corsicana (90) and John Tyler (115).

Whitehouse also took third in the boys race with 76 points, followed closely by Nacogdoches (77) and Corsicana (85).



After Watson and Romano, Whitehouse’s Colton Flyke, Jacksonville’s Pedro Mikeless and Lindale’s Andrew Cox rounded out the top five. Earning top-10 finishes were Tex Pearce (Whitehouse), Bravlo Garcia (Jacksonville), Ernesto Hernandez (John Tyler), D’Andre Sanchez (Nacogdoches) and Fredie Barboza (Nacogdoches).

Lindale’s Sydnes Hacker finished third on the girls side as the Lady Eagles had two in the top six, but not enough runners to complete a team. Nacogdoches took the next two spots with Lydia Landeros and Bayi Davis, followed by Lindale’s Claudia Charles.

Rounding out the top 10 were Sarah Pearson (Nacogdoches), Shannon Chilton (Jacksonville), Mirian Mendoza (Jacksonville) and Sarah Grounds (Whitehouse).

The Class 4A Region II meet is scheduled for Saturday at Lynn Creek Park at Joe Pool Lake in Grand Prairie.
