PALESTINE — The Palestine Wildcats shutout the visiting Pittsburg Pirates 32-0 on Friday night, with Adrian Peterson’s jersey retired at halftime as part of the homecoming festivities.

The Wildcats scored on five of their 11 drives and their defense provided the shutout to cruise to victory.

Palestine’s Jarrell Owens rushed for a touchdown and threw for a touchdown to lead the offense for the Wildcats. Owens connected on a 12-yard pass on his only pass attempt early in the third quarter to stretch the advantage to 25-0 for the home team. He had 84 yards rushing on the night.

Gee Clark also threw for three touchdowns on the night, connecting on passes for 21, 43, and 54 yards. Clark was 11 of 18 with 242 yards through the air.

The Pirates were unable to get anything going offensively despite a strong night rushing from tailback Carl Leonard. Leonard finished the night with 78 yards on 20 carries.

Pittsburg also received consistent quarterback play from Garret Truitt, who went 13 for 22 on the night with no interceptions. Truitt finished with 119 yards in the air.

The win improved Palestine’s record to 4-2 going in to its next contest with Rusk on Oct. 18. Pittsburg fell to 2-3 and will play next Friday hosting North Lamar.
