Whitehouse moves to No. 3

Football fans are in for a treat on Friday as the Whitehouse Wildcats, who moved up to No. 3 in the Class 4A poll, and the Carthage Bulldogs, No. 1 in Class 3A, will meet in Whitehouse.

The squads will play at 7:30 p.m. in Whitehouse.



The Wildcats (4-0) jumped from No. 5 to third in this week’s Associated Press High School Football Poll, the Dallas AP bureau announced on Monday.

The poll is voted on by sports writers and broadcasters around the state each week.

Aledo is No. 1 in Class 4A, followed by San Antonio Brennan. The Wildcats leapfrogged both Humble Summer Creek and Denton Guyer.

In Class 3A, Carthage remained No. 1, followed by Gilmer and Navasota who are tied for second. The Bulldogs have nine first-place votes, while Gilmer has five.

Kilgore is fifth in Class 3A.

In Class 2A, Cameron Yoe tops the poll, followed by Newton, East Bernard, New Boston and Wall. Tatum is sixth, while Hughes Springs, White Oak, Malakoff and Garrison received votes.

Stamford remained No. 1 in Class 1A, followed by Wellington, Stratford, Chilton and Tenaha.

Allen is atop the Class 5A poll. Katy is second with DeSoto third. All three received first-place votes.
