- FAITH HARPER/STAFF Crews from the Noonday Volunteer Fire Department head to an overturned boat to turn it over and pull it to shore.
Three men waited for about an hour on top of a sinking boat Monday evening waiting to be saved.
The boat capsized near Westberry Landing and RV Park on County Road 1110, off Farm-to-Market Road 2661, near Flint.
Gerald Peddy, 74, of Winnsboro, said he and two friends were out fishing on Lake Palestine. The boat struck a stump while turning and capsized, he said.
Peddy said they were in the middle of the lake in water that was about 11-feet deep.
The fishermen, who were all wearing life jackets, climbed on top of the boat and waited for the Noonday Volunteer Fire Department to arrive. A cellphone that did not get wet was used to call 911, and no one was injured in the incident.
Two boat crews from Noonday also worked to flip the boat and pull it back to shore.
