The Tyler Public Library is accepting clean, gently used Halloween costumes from Sunday to Oct. 10 for its first Halloween Costume Exchange, according to a press release from the city. Anyone who drops off a child’s costume will receive a ticket that will allow him or her to shop for a gently used costume on the day of the exchange Oct. 12.
The costume exchange will take place from 1 to 5 p.m. on Oct. 12. Those with tickets may shop from 1 to 5 p.m.
The exchange will be opened to non-ticket holders from 3 to 5 p.m. to obtain a costume in exchange for a $2 donation to the Friends of the Tyler Public Library. The library will also accept costumes from those individuals who want to donate to the event but not receive a costume in exchange. Any costumes left over after the swap will be donated or retained for next year’s swap.
“We are hoping to help families find an affordable, green way to get a different costume for this fun time of year,” youth services librarian Linda Gray said in the press release. “The costume exchange kicks off our Halloween programs which include Dressed to Read, Trick or Treat the Library and a special Halloween story time.”
