DALLAS (AP) — A poster from the 1931 film “Frankenstein” that was stashed in the closet of an Illinois home for more than 30 years has sold at a Texas auction for a record amount.

Keith Johnson of Ottawa, Ill., says he purchased the poster as a teenager for a few dollars in 1968 or 1969. Dallas-based Heritage Auctions sold it Saturday for $262,900 to an anonymous bidder. Heritage says it’s the largest bid ever recorded for an insert poster, which were designed for movie theater display cases.

The previous record was a $191,200 bid last year for a “Casablanca” poster.

“Frankenstein” featured actor Boris Karloff as the monster.

Johnson’s wife Julie says the couple over the decades would occasionally pour themselves a glass of wine and take a look at the poster.
