The suspect in Monday morning’s homicide in Tyler was identified as Christopher Shane Wiley, 39, of Tyler, according to a statement from Tyler police.

Wiley is charged with first-degree murder and was formally arrested in the hospital where he remains under protective custody for the shooting death of 52-year-old Rodney Earl Walker.

Judge Christi Kennedy signed the arrest warrant and set Wiley’s bond at $500,000. Wiley will remain under protective custody until he is released from the hospital and taken to Smith County Jail.
