Carlisle cruises in area sweep of McLeod

TATUM — Shadow Sanders came up big at the plate and on the mound to lead Carlisle past McLeod, 16-1, in Game 2 of a Class 1A best-of-three basebal series Saturday at Tatum High School.

Sanders allowed one run on one hit with four strikouts, plus blasted a grand slam to help advance the Indians to a one-game playoff against Simms Bowie in the regional quarterfinals. The matchup is set for 7 p.m. Friday at Longview High School.



Carlisle’s Clay Allphin went 3 for 4 with three doubles and three RBIs. Gunner Baker went 2 for 2 with four RBIs and two runs, while teammate Zach Brightwell finished 3 for 4 with three RBIs and three runs.

On Friday night, Brightwell went 2 for 3 with four RBIs, three runs and a triple as Carlisle defeated McLeod 12-0 in the first game.

Brightwell added two strikeouts on the mound in relief of Baker, who rung up six in four innings prior.

Baker also had two hits on the day, as did Sanders and Ty Baker. Sanders and Ty Baker each scored three runs while Ben Goss chipped in three RBIs without recording a hit.
