Grace Community won its first district championship in the baseball program’s history with a 10-0 win over Dallas Shelton to clinch first place in TAPPS 2-4A on Saturday.

Canaan Klaassen (6-2) struck out nine and walked one in the shutout for the Cougars (18-5, 12-1), who have one game to make up against Trinity Christian-Cedar Hill before the playoffs.

Chandler Nutt went 3 for 3 (three RBIs, two runs) and Jacob Wadle blasted a solo shot in the fourth inning for Grace. Blake White, Austin Patrick and Call Florence each turned in multi-hit games.

Trojans cruise past Reicher

WACO — Chandler Hammond went 3 for 4 with three RBIs as All Saints continued its strong form with an 11-1 win over Waco Reicher on Saturday.

Garrett Buatte and Charlie Short each had two RBIs for the Trojans (19-10, 11-4 TAPPS 2-4A), who wrap up the season at home Monday against Bishop Gorman.

Guard go perfect in district

McKINNEY — Bullard Brook Hill closed out another undefeated district campaign by sweeping McKinney Christian in a doubleheader Friday.

The Guard won 19-2 and 16-0 to win TAPPS 4-3A with an 8-0 record and improve to 19-4 overall.

Clayton Engel and Drew Robertson both had three hits to lead the Guard in Game 1. Robertson had four RBIs and Blake Maddox drove in four while Mike Greening, Engel and Robertson scored three times each.

Quintin Pile struck out eight in three innings for Brook Hill.

In Game 2, Daniel Priddy struck out 11 and walked two in a one-hit shutout for the Guard. His no-hit bid was ended with two outs in the fifth and final inning.

Priddy also doubled and drove in three runs in Game 2. Maddox went 3 for 4 with three RBIs while Jonah Gonzales and Pile also had three RBIs. Mondrik and Maddox scored four runs apiece.

Brook Hill will host Nacogdoches Central Heights on Tuesday in a warm-up game before the Guard defend their back-to-back TAPPS 3A state championships.

Holland throws Cayuga’s second straight no-hitter

BEN WHEELER — Chantz Holland threw Cayuga’s second consecutive no-hitter to help lead the Wildcats past Martins Mill, 14-0, in District 19-1A baseball action Friday.

Holland struck out 13 and walked one to help improve Cayuga to 19-3 on the season and 12-1 in district.

The victory set up a winner-take-all battle for the district title with Kerens (15-3, 12-1) at 6 p.m. Thursday in Bethel.

Wildcats catcher Jaret Walthall blasted a three-run homer in the fourth, while teammates Payton Wallace, Hunter Jenkins and John Vickery produced multiple hits apiece.
