Apaches split twinbill with Bossier Parish

Tyler Junior College split a baseball doubleheader with Bossier Parish Community College on Friday afternoon at Mike Carter Field.

A comeback win in the bottom of the ninth earned TJC a 3-2 win in the first game.



The Cavaliers came back in the finale with 11 hits and a barrage of doubles to lead to a 4-1 setback for the Apaches.

The Apaches (21-12) travel to play against Hill County Community College on Monday

GAME ONE

Flower Mound’s Anthony Soriano came up with a clutch double to tie the game 2-2 in the seventh inning.

Later in the bottom of the ninth, the freshman walked to reach base. He scored the game-winning run when Luke Neely’s got his second hit of the game with a single down the rightfield line.

Soriano (1 for 3, two RBIs), was joined offensively by Neely (2 for 4, RBI, run). Connor McMullin and Apaches catcher Conner Wrye had singles to account for the five hits in Game 1.

Eric Polivka drew the start for the Apaches and threw seven innings, allowing seven hits before giving way to Kevin Kubeczka for two-thirds of an inning. Eythan Lenz came on to shut down the Cavs in the final at-bat to pick up the win.

 

GAME TWO

The Cavaliers evened up the double-dip, rattling their bats with 11 hits, three of those doubles en route to the 4-1 win.

After a 1-0 lead by the Cavs, TJC came back to tie the game at 1-1 on a sacrifice fly from Anthony Soriano (1 for 2, RBI) to plate Cody Broussard after reaching on a walk. Eric Stegent singled to put runners at the corners to set up the run.

That would be all the runs for TJC while Bossier added one run in the second and two more in the fourth.

Chase Daughbill laced a two-RBI single for the two-run fourth stanza.

Zac Howell went 3 for 3 to pace Bossier. Lance Jones was 2 for 4 with a double, two-RBIs and one run scored.

The Apaches’ Hunter Sutton, Conner Wrye, Stegent, Blaise Warrick and Soriano each had singles for the Apaches in the loss.
