Whitehouse, Lindale split

LINDALE — In a pair of one-sided matchups, Whitehouse and Lindale split a District 16-4A basketball doubleheader Tuesday night at the LHS gymnasium.

Whitehouse claimed a 66-39 victory in the boys game and Lindale prevailed 65-31 in the girls contest, a regular-season finale.



Boys

Jaylon Dews, Patrick Mahomes and Jake Parker scored 14 points each to lead Whitehouse, which dominated all night after falling behind 2-0 in the early moments of the opening quarter. The Wildcats led 26-8 at one point in the second quarter and then outscored the Eagles 25-14 in the third to take a 51-27 lead into the fourth.

Whitehouse’s biggest lead of the night came in the fourth, a 66-36 advantage via a Parker 3-pointer in the final minutes.

Whitehouse took a 26-13 lead into the break after leading by as many as 18 points. Dews scored 11 points in the half to lead the Wildcats, scoring his final basket of the half on a layup — long assist from Mahomes — to make the score 24-8 with 6:12 remaining in the second quarter.

On Friday night, Whitehouse travels to unbeaten Jacksonville and Lindale plays host to John Tyler.

Girls

Zhanelle Geathers finished with 16 points in a dominant Lindale victory on Senior Night. Hannah Malne, Neeley Doss and Hannah Brown were honored before the game. Natasha Malone added 12 points and Doss finished with 10 points to also help the Lady Eagles, who already had the district title clinched before the game.

Whitehouse was paced by Morgan Tauscher, who finished with 13 points.

The Lady Eagles’ biggest advantage of the night was 35 points; 58-23 with 3:27 remaining in the fourth quarter.

Lindale wasted little time before taking control, charging ahead to an 18-5 lead after the first quarter and increasing the advantage to 33-13 at the break. The Lady Eagles scored the first 13 points of the second quarter to lead 33-5 with 3:20 left in the half, which Whitehouse closed with a 8-0 run to make the score less one-sided.
