The 11-year long mystery is history.

John Tyler solved a continuing dilemma, rallying for six runs in the bottom of the seventh to beat Marshall, 7-6, Friday at Mike Carter Field, ending a 128-game on-the-field district losing streak.

JT earned two forfeit wins to close out the 2004 season — stopping a 46-game slide at the time — before losing 82 straight afterward.

Josh Wilson walked with the bases loaded, bringing in Chris Garcia for the game-winning run.

The Lions benefited from 10 free passes off six hit batsmen and four walks.

JT loaded the bases in the seventh with singles by Cesar Flores and Wilson before Marshall starter Landon Brune beaned Jawun Hart, prompting a pitching change.

Following a strikeout, JT scored on three consecutive at-bats off a Chris Williams walk, and RBI singles by brothers Robert Garcia and Chris Garcia. After another pitching change, JT tied the score when Kason Box hit both Jalen Reagins and Nathan Jacobs. Box bounced back for a strikeout, keeping the bases full with two outs.

Wilson drew a full count before Box threw a final ball high for the tie-breaker.

Offensive leaders for JT included Robert Garcia (2 for 3, 2 RBIs, run) and Williams (2 for 3, run, RBI).

Reagins reached base safely on all four appearances, hitting a double and drawing contact three times. Robert Garcia gave JT a complete-game effort, allowing eight hits and balancing four walks with four strikeouts.

Marshall turned four double plays and built a commanding 6-1 lead after batting in the seventh.

The contest started bad for JT after Marshall scored on the first pitch, thanks to a leadoff triple from Staylen Roach, who came home when the relay throw sailed into the Mavericks’ dugout.

With the bases full in the first, Marshall kept JT scoreless with a 4-6-3 connection. JT placed runners at first and second in the fifth. Box, playing shortstop at the time, fielded a grounder, stepped on second and fired to first for the final out of the inning to keep the Mavericks in front, 1-0.

Marshall added to its lead with two runs in the fifth and sixth. Roach doubled and scored in the fifth. Hunter Voyles scored on Brune’s single in the fifth, and followed an RBI-double from Box in the sixth with an RBI single of his own to make it a five-run game, where it stood heading into JT’s last at-bat.
