SAN ANTONIO — With three strong relay teams, the Grace Community boys swim team earned a fifth-place finish at the TAPPS Division II state meet on Saturday.

The Cougars placed second in the 200 freestyle relay and fourth in both the 200 medley and 400 freestyle relays to amass 100 points in the state competition. Houston Second Baptist won the event with 155 points.

The Lady Cougars finished 14th on the girls side with 14 points, three behind 13th-place T.K. Gorman. Katy Pope John XXIII ran away with the girls event with 166.5 points.

Clayton Hendry, Zach Ochran, Austin Yeager and James Burden swam the Cougars to a second-place finish in the 200 freestyle relay in a time of 1 minute, 39.27 seconds. Burden, Hendry, Jacob Wortham and Yeager teamed up to take fourth in the 200 medley relay (1:56.49). The group of Yeager, Burden, Ochran and Hendry finished fourth in the 400 freestyle relay (3:45.22).

Burden took bronze in the 500 freestyle (5:17.27) for the Cougars’ top individual finish. Hendry was fourth in the 100 breaststroke (1:09.68).

The Lady Crusaders’ team of Liliana Vasquez, Laura Noriega, Rebecca Bowles and Breanna Martin earned points in the 400 freestyle relay with an eighth-place finish in a time of 1:29.95. Vasquez also had Gorman’s top two individual performances, taking sixth in 500 freestyle (6:36.56) and seventh in the 100 butterfly (1:15.42).

Monica Lim earned bronze in the 100 breaststroke for the Lady Cougars (1:17.37). Caitlin Bice added an eighth-place finish in the 200 IM and 10th in 100 backstroke for Grace.
