PRICE — The undefeated and 10th-ranked Carlisle Indians took advantage of four Big Sandy turnovers and looked impressive on their way to defeating the Wildcats 43-6 in a District 9-1A Division I game.

Carlisle, in the driver’s seat for the district championship, has now allowed just 31 points in eight games. 

After a scoreless opening quarter, the Indians (8-0, 3-0) turned up the heat in the second quarter on their way to a 23-0 lead. The Indians’ first score came on a blocked punt that was recovered by Juan Villanueva in the end zone with 11:17 left before halftime.

After that, the game went south for Big Sandy (5-3, 2-1). 

Facing and second-and-7 at their own 36, Wildcats running back Josh Jackson fumbled the ball, giving Carlisle excellent field position at the 30.

The Indians used one play, with sophomore fullback Gustavo Marinez scoring on a 30-yard run.

Carlisle senior quarterback Gunner Baker carved up the Wildcats defense all night with 17 carries for 123 and two touchdowns. Baker also completed 2 of 5 passes for 55 yards.

Carlisle continued the onslaught in the second half, scoring on its opening possession with a three-play drive capped off by a 53-yard run by Baker.

Big Sandy’s only score came in the third quarter on a 4-yard pass from James Ellis to Taurus Kppard.
