ATHENS — Just say it was the night the lights went out at Bruce Field.
With 2:30 left in the third quarter on Saturday, half of the stadium lights went dim as Trinity Valley and Lon Morris played football.
After trying to play, a fumble caused the officials to declare it was too dark to play on. Thus, TVCC was awarded the 27-13 victory before about 1,000 fans.
The passing of Tucker Carter and the bulldozing running of Rufus Mason led the Cardinals to the win. Also, the strong leg of former Pittsburg standout Saul Martinez played a key role.
Carter threw for 99 yards as he hit on 13 of 19 attempts. He hit Cade Carter for a 4-yard TD and the QB also scored on a 1-yard run as the Cards improved to 2-0.
Mason rushed for 51 yards and scored on a 3-yard run for the No. 14 Cardinals. Martinez booted field goals of 25 and 44.
Terry Newsome led Lon Morris (1-1) with 132 yards and two touchdowns on 15 carries.
