DECATUR — Led by an effective running game and a timely passing game, King’s Academy opened its season with a 44-13 rout of Wise County Christian Home School on Friday.
Caleb Tibbets racked up 114 yards, exactly half the Royal Knights’ output on the ground. He added a rushing touchdown among his 14 carries.
Quarterback Jonathan Baggs completed 4 of 8 passes for 53 yards, but three of those completions went for touchdowns.
King’s Academy had six different players score.
David Eichelberger, who caught a touchdown, recorded six tackles and two fumble recoveries to lead the Royal Knights defense. Brock Kenyon added a sack.
King’s Academy (1-0) will play its first home game at All Saints’ Mewbourne Field next Saturday when Karnack comes to town. Kickoff is 5:30 p.m.
