TEXARKANA — Big plays, early and often, were the story on a warm Friday evening at Hawk Stadium as Hallsville dominated Pleasant Grove, 41-10.
The Bobcats easily handled the Hawks in the season opener for the second consecutive year. Hallsville moves to 1-0 on the season, while Pleasant Grove falls to 0-1.
Bobcats senior quarterback Josh Warbington hit junior Seyth Glezen for a 68-yard touchdown on the first play from scrimmage. After holding Pleasant Grove to a punt, junior tailback Cayden Ferrill dashed 24 yards on the very next play for another touchdown. Senior J.C. Daily set up the score with a shifty punt return. Less than five minutes into the game, Hallsville had a 14-0 lead.
The Bobcats offense had a balanced attack that included 234 yards rushing and 191 yards passing.
Warbington was effective in both aspects. He was 7-10 passing for 191 yards, while running the ball four times for 128 yards. He tallied four touchdowns — two through the air and two on the ground. He found a favorite target in Glezen, who had 100 yards receiving on only three catches. As a whole, the Bobcats did not punt until the fourth quarter. They did suffer three turnovers, however.
