Corsicana punter Trevor Denbow earned first-team honors, while Whitehouse standouts Zach Parker and Javier Neal were voted honorable mention on the Texas Associated Press Sports Editors Class 5A all-state football team, the Dallas AP office released on Wednesday.
The team was based on regular-season statistics.
Denbow averaged 45.6 yards per kick and downed 14 punts inside the 10-yard line.
Nacogdoches defensive back Josh Thompson, a senior, was voted second-team defense. Thompson is committed to Texas.
Parker was honorable mention as a wide receiver. He had 52 catches for 872 yards and seven touchdowns.
Neal earned honorable mention as a defensive back. He had an East Texas regular season high of seven interceptions.
Other area players earning honorable mention were Texas High receiver Quan Hampton and Nacogdoches running back Phillip Jones.
Eric Sutton, of Texas High, was honorable mention as a defensive back.
Eno Benjamin, a senior running back at Wylie East, was voted Offensive Player of the Year.
Benjamin, a rivals.com four-star athlete, rushed for 1,791 yards and 22 touchdowns on 268 carries. He also tossed five TD passes. He originally committed to Iowa, but decommitted in October. Benjamin has officially visited Arizona State and Missouri and also has numerous other offers including Texas, Michigan and Utah, among others.
Sophomore defensive back Jalen Catalon of Mansfield Legacy was tabbed Defensive Player of the Year. He had 150 tackles, four interceptions, four forced fumbles and eight pass breakups.
Catalon received his first offer last week from Missouri.
