BROWNSBORO — Van quarterback Peter Maddox tossed two long touchdown passes to Layton Myers as the Vandals scored a 40-12 District 15-3A victory over Brownsboro Friday night at Bear Stadium.

Maddox hit on 15 of 19 pass attempts for 336 yards and two touchdowns. He also scored on a 9-yard run.

Myers had six receptions for 199 yards and two TDs.

Van improves to 2-6 on the season and 2-1 in league play. Brownsboro falls to 2-6 and 0-3.

Van took a 21-6 halftime lead.

In the first quarter, the Vandals went on top 14-0 as Maddox tossed TD passes of 65 and 75 yards to Myers.

Brownsboro pulled within 14-6 when Quintus Lee dashed 22 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter. In the second half, Lee returned a kickoff 92 yards for a touchdown.

But Van moved up to a 15-point lead, 21-6, as Matt Savis scored on 2-yard run.

Deundre Johnson scored on two 1-yard runs. He rushed for 102 yards on 18 attempts.

Brownsboro plays host to Canton Nov. 1, while the Vandals meet Mabank in Van the same night. Both games are set for 7:30 p.m. kickoffs.
