PINEVILLE, La. - Graham Welch went 2 for 4 and drove in three runs and starting pitcher Michael Blevins recorded five strikeouts and allowed one run in five innings to help lead No. 17 UT Tyler to an 11-3 non-conference baseball win over Louisiana College on Saturday at Billy Allgood Field.
The Patriots (11-4) swept the two-game series against the Wildcats (4-10) in which the games did not count toward the American Southwest Conference standings. UT Tyler is now 2-1 on the road this season and will host Southwestern in a 6 p.m. non-conference game at Irwin Field on Tuesday before returning to ASC play next weekend at Concordia.
Welch, who is hitting .339 and has reached base in all 15 games this season, had two singles and a sacrifice for the Patriots while Alex Bishop went 3 for 5 with two RBIs. Sam Lane blasted his first home run of the season. Lane’s two-run shot was the third home run of the season for the Patriots.
Ben Romines added a 2-for-2 performance for UT Tyler, which had 12 hits in the game, including hits from Connor Green, Dalton Smith and Braxton Hollenshead.
Blevins (2-1) went five innings with four hits allowed while Tyler Stallings had two strikeouts in two innings of relief. Chris Stodolka had three strikeouts in the eighth inning.
On Friday, the Patriots won 12-2 as Bishop had three hits and Smith drove in three runs.
Cason Adams (2-0) struck out six and scattered five hits in six innings of work. Adams has recorded 23 strikeouts this season through five starts.
Bishop went 3 for 5 in the game with two RBIs while Smith had two hits and three RBIs. Welch was 2 for 4 with two RBIs, while Lane, Trenton Buchhorn, Brady McCoy, Romines and Blake Wilson each had hits.
