Facing tough district matches against Paris Junior College, both of the Tyler Junior College soccer teams clinched a pair of 3-1 victories to complete a perfect weekend at Pat Hartley Field on Saturday night.

The Apache Ladies improved to 12-2 on the season, 4-1 in Region XIV play. The Apaches improved to 11-1 and 7-0. TJC swept Northeast Texas Community College on Friday.

The TJC women set the tone early on and scored in the 29th minute. Freshman forward Ayana Williams had a corner kick from the right side, which sailed to the middle of the box and was headed in by sophomore defender Jaissa Cadelinia.

That would be the only goal of the half as the rain poured down on the field. But the sun came out in time for the second half. TJC added to its advantage in the 75th minute with a goal by Chloe Burr to put the Apache Ladies up 2-0.

TJC quickly worked the ball back up the field. The goalie for Paris came out to the top of the box to scoop the ball up but sophomore forward Tricia Gould beat her to it and kicked the ball into the net for the third goal of the game.

Paris quickly answered back with a goal in the 78th minute to avoid the shutout but was unable to gain any headway as TJC clinched the 3-1 victory.

In the men's match, TJC was on the board first. Sophomore midfielder Rayon Gibbs knocked one in the back of the net from 20 yards out in the 25th minute to give the Apaches the lead. Eleven minutes later, freshman forward Nazeem Bartman scored to give TJC a two-goal advantage heading into halftime.

As the game progressed, tempers flared as several yellow cards were given throughout the second half. Paris converted a penalty kick in the 69th minute.

Freshman forward Yaw Amankwa added a penalty kick for TJC.

The women's soccer team will travel to Navarro College to play at 4 p.m. Tuesday in another conference matchup. The men's team will travel to Dallas to play Western Texas College at 7 p.m. Friday.
