CORSICANA - It was bounce back Saturday for the Apaches.

After a sluggish home showing last week, No. 12 Tyler Junior College hit the road and got back on track, scoring an impressive 58-29 victory over Navarro College at Tiger Stadium.

Quarterback McLane Carter and wide receiver Savon Rollison stole the show.

Carter, the freshman from Gilmer, threw for 578 yards and six touchdowns, four scoring tosses to Rollison.

Rollison caught touchdown passes of 42, 40, 30 and 21 yards. He had a total of 14 receptions for 205 yards.

The Apaches improved to 4-1 on the season and 3-1 in Southwest Junior College Football Conference play. TJC will host No. 4 Trinity Valley next Saturday at Christus Trinity Mother Frances Rose Stadium in a key league contest.

Navarro fell to 2-4 and 1-3.

Along with Rollison, Joseph Ward (9-117) and CJ Thomas (6-84) had standout receiving games.

Carter, a transfer from Incarnate Word, also tossed TD passes to Ward (26) and Fua Sapoi (30).

Backup QB Elijah Staley also got into the action, throwing a 35-yard TD pass to John Murray, who had four catches for 55 yards.

Also, Jordan Lawless kicked field goals of 28 and 37, while Tyler Dunlop added a 26-yarder.

After last week’s 50-35 loss to Blinn, the Apaches were anxious to hit the field and their effort spoiled Navarro’s homecoming.

The defense came through as well with Darien Wilson coming through with two sacks with Tyler Hayes, Phil Aumuo, Whitehouse’s Dominique Hollie and Michael Epley adding sacks.

Tre Crawford and Aumuo also added tackles for loss.

X’Zavier Preston and Seth Glen had interceptions.

In another highlight, Epley, the transfer from SMU, blocked an extra point that Nate Jones returned for two points.

Navarro quarterback Kenneth Arthur threw for 417 yards and two touchdowns.
