FORT WORTH — The Texas College Steers stormed back in the second half to beat Texas Wesleyan 64-62 for a key road win in Red River Athletic Conference action on Monday. The Steers trailed 38-26 at halftime before turning the game in their favor.
Kerry Jones, a 6-7 junior pivot from Tyler, sparked the Steers with 15 points and six rebounds.
Brandon Lee logged 12 points for the Steers and Jamal Robertson provided 11 points, seven rebounds and five assists to the TC cause.
The win marked the third straight for the resurgent Steers (16-6, 10-5 in RRAC) after a four-game losing streak dropped them from the national rankings. Texas College gained a sweep of the regular season series against Texas Wesleyan (13-9, 7-8), which earlier in the month held the nation’s longest active streak in the Top 25 before a current four-game losing skid.
Texas Wesleyan won the women’s game, 86-64. The Lady Rams (14-7, 10-5) earned a season sweep over the Lady Steers (4-16, 3-11).
The TC women shot 28 percent from the field.
Kayla McCray led the Lady Rams with 22 points.
The TC teams return home Saturday to face Huston-Tillotson in a doubleheader at Gus F. Taylor Gymnasium starting at 2 p.m. with the women.
