The Grace Community Cougars defeated Boerne Geneva 59-57 in a TAPPS 5A bi-district basketball playoff game on Saturday in Buffalo. It was the Cougars’ first postseason win in eight years.

The Grace Community Cougars captured their first postseason win in eight years on Saturday, scoring a 59-57 victory over the Boerne Geneva Eagles in a TAPPS 5A bi-district basketball game at Buffalo High School.

The Cougars (14-10) advance to area play to meet Fort Worth Christian (21-9). The Cardinals received a bye in bi-district. The contest is scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday at FW Christian.

Three Grace players hit in double figures — Darius Shankle (12 points), Nathan Luce (11) and Jaxon Rees (10).

The Cougars connected on 11 3-pointers — Luke Jenz (3), Shankle (2), Tyler Hicks (2), Luce (1), Rees (1), Isiah Coffey (1) and Jacob Tucker (1).

Others scoring for Grace were Jenz (9), Hicks (8), Tucker (4), Coffey (3) and Tanner They (2). Also playing in the game were Will Bozeman and Jake Tanner. Other members of the team are Grayson Gaddis, Cade Covington, Drew Gaddis, Joey Warren and Kole Crawford.

The Cougars were 6 of 9 at the free throw line with the Eagles 18 of 25.

Soren Burkhalter led the Eagles (16-10) with 27 points. Others scoring for Geneva were Aidan Christal (7), Dylan Southwick (7), Cade Barone (5), Spencer Yarbrough (4), Chaz Lutz (3), Price Hill (2) and Jackson Young (2).

The winner of the Grace-FW Christian game will face either Frisco Legacy Christian or McKinney Christian in the regional round.
