BULLARD - Hood Taylor threw for 119 yards and Sam Nechi rushed for 138 more, but it was not enough as the Brook Hill Guard fell to Houston St. John’s 43-21 Friday.

The Guard, 1-2, took the first lead of the game with 8:03 left in the first on a 23-yard TD carry by Nechi. A failed two-point conversion made it 6-0.

St. John’s took a brief 7-6 lead, before Brook Hill went back in front 13-7 on a 36-yard scoring run by Nechi and Jake Shaffer PAT.

St. John’s scored twice in the second to take a 21-13 lead into half.

The two teams traded touchdowns and two-point conversions in the third with St. John’s scoring first to go up 29-13.

Brook Hill made it 29-21 on a 1-yard run by Taylor and conversion by Nechi.

The Guard was unable to score in the fourth quarter while St. John’s added 14 points.
