ATHENS — Anthony Sanders threw a pair of fourth-quarter touchdowns to rally the Athens Hornets to a 31-25 win over Kaufman Friday.
Trailing 25-17, Sanders hit Travon Fuller on a 63-yard TD pass with 9:34 remaining to make it a 25-24 Kaufman lead.
The Hornets took the lead again with 8:09 on the clock when Sanders hit Devin Hall on a 7-yard TD toss.
The two scoring passes accounted for 70 or Sanders’ 91 passing yards on the night.
Athens took a 7-0 lead in the first quarter when Sanders, playing defense, returned an interception 38 yards for a TD.
The Lions made it 7-6 early in the second on a 6-yard run by Josh Ramirez.
Back on offense, Sanders scored a second TD with 7:38 in the second to give the Hornets a 13-6.
Kaufman made it 13-12 at half following a 32-yard scoring pass from Clay Rhodes to Cameron Duncan. A two-point conversion attempt to tie the game failed.
The Lions took their first lead 18-13 in the third on a 4-yard run by Ramirez, but the teams extra-point troubles continues.
Athens closed the gap to 18-16 on a 27-yard field goal byDavid Cedillo with 2:20 remaining in the third.
The Lions opened the scoring in the fourth quarter on a 50-yard run by Rhodes.
