BULLARD — For the second straight day John Sams turned in the top score in the Boys 15-18 divisoin to win the Tyler Rose Championship on Sunday at Eagle’s Bluff Country Club.
Sams, from Coushatta, La., followed Saturday’s 72 with a 70 on Sunday to finish at even par for the tournament, four strokes ahead of his nearest competitor.
Katharine Patrick, of Houston, carded a two-day 153 to claim first in the Girls 15-18 division, two strokes ahead of Crockett’s Ann Holcomb (83-72—155). Cheleen Cousins of Plano won the Girls 12-14 division with a 162.
Sean Wilcox of Frisco fired a day-best 68 to take first in the Boys 12-14 division. He shot 8 over for the tournament.
Longview’s Devin Jackson (74-73—147) finished fourth at 5-over, one stroke behind Jose Narro and Diego Trevino who tied for second. Whitehouse’s Cody Gilbert (79-76—155) and Longview’s Bryce Alley (76-79—155) tied for sixth along with Carlos Trevino.
Other East Texans in the Boys 15-18 field included Tyler Dunbar of Lufkin (T-16th, 158), Hagan Wood of Longview (T-23rd, 84-77—161), Collin Thompson of Longview (T-27, 84-79—163), Whitehouse’s Michael Watson (36th, 92-79—171), Ryan Springfield of Henderson (38th, 87-87—174) and Longview’s Parker Fiscus (T-39th, 92-84—176),
Tyler’s Jackson Smith took fifth in Boys 12-14 after firing an 88-87—175.
