It all comes down to one game for Robert E. Lee soccer teams. Win and/or capture a penalty shootout after a tie and the playoffs await.

Lose and it’s scoreboard watching time.

And, for the first time this season, fans of the Red Raiders and Lady Raiders will have a chance to watch both in action at home.

Lee and Garland Naaman Forest will face-off in a doubleheader Friday for the District 11-6A and regular-season finale for both. The girls’ game is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. with the boys to follow at approximately 7:30 p.m. at Lee High School’s Red Raider Field.

It is also “Senior Night” with REL honoring Adai Urieta, Marlen Esparza, Lauren Nichols and Kelli Kissinger before the girls game, and David McCook, Cole Wilkins, Jack Sherrell, Alex Ruben, Isaias Robles, Juan Davlin, Trey Tucker, Michael Sheppard and Hayden Smith before the boys kick off.

LADY RAIDERS

Only one playoff spot remains in District 11-6A entering this final round of fixtures and two teams are vying for it.

The Lady Raiders currently occupy that fourth and final place in league standings after a shootout loss Tuesday at Rockwall to give REL (5-4-4) 20 points. In fifth place, just two points behind, lies Garland Lakeview Centennial (18). The Lady Patriots are in action against last-place North Garland.

Lee will also be seeking a little revenge against a sixth-place Naaman Forest team that defeated the Lady Raiders 3-2 in their first meeting in Garland.

REL will look to junior forward Alex Bice to continue to provide goals. Bice enters with a team-high 14 and has had to do even more with the loss of second-leading scorer Carly Wyatt to injury.

A regulation win for Lee gives the Lady Raiders 23 points and fourth place. REL can also clinch fourth with a shootout win because the Lady Raiders own the head-to-head tiebreaker against Lakeview. A loss for Lee and win for Lakeview would give the Lady Patriots fourth and REL would drop out in fifth.

“We need to go out and play the way we are capable of playing and everything will take care of itself,” Lady Raiders coach Chris Woodard said. “The girls’ spirits are good. Maybe because (we are so young); they don’t have any fear and seem to be confident.”

RED RAIDERS

A win for REL against Naaman Forest clinches at least third place in the final District 11-6A standings and books a spot into the postseason.

Anything else and things get interesting.

The Red Raiders currently have 22 points following their shootout win Tuesday over Rockwall. Right now that is good enough for third place, but second through sixth place is as follows: Garland Sachse (24), Lee (22), North Garland (21), Rowlett (20) and Rockwall (18).

Lee could conceivably overtake Sachse for second place in the standings if the Red Raiders defeat NF and the Mustangs lose to Rowlett.

The Lady Raiders first have to take all three points against first-place Naaman Forest, which has only suffered one regulation loss this season. The Rangers upended Lee 1-0 in their first meeting in Garland.

“They are the best team in the district based on record, but in a way I feel like we have the best team in the district,” Raiders coach Marty Germany said. “We lost to them (by one goal) in our first meeting and we were without three of our starters.

“We feel like we can play against anybody in the district. It’s a matter of not making mistakes and taking care of your chances.”

A tie and shootout win also qualifies Lee for no worse than a fourth place finish. A shootout loss could still be enough if both Rowlett and North Garland lose.

“The guys feel confident,” Germany said. “We are trying to fine-tune a few things and make sure we’re healthy and I think they like that we don’t have to rely on anyone else. We are going out to play our best and see what happens.”
