Robert E. Lee tennis faced Mesquite Horn early Thursday morning as part of a quad team tennis match that also featured Lindale and Kilgore at Tyler Junior College's Murphy Tennis Center and Louis Brookshire Community Tennis Complex.

Continual rain washed out the event, but not before the Red Raiders grabbed five doubles victories over Horn.

Top seeded boys duo Peyton and Nathan Drain delivered a quick 8-0 win while No. 3 boys doubles' Matthew Watson and Dylan Smith had similar success, winning 8-1.

In girls doubles, REL's Avery Riley and Griselle Esparza won 8-3 with No. 3 doubles duo Rhea Dhakal and Sheily Cordova taking care of business with an 8-1 victory.

Finally in mixed doubles, the team of William Shelton and Claire Fisher won 8-0 to complete Lee's 5-0 early domination of Horn.

Then the rains came and never let up.

REL coach Ronnie Blake confirmed the team match will not be made up with Lee scheduled to be back in action on Tuesday at Whitehouse. The team match is scheduled to start at 4 p.m.
