The third annual RBC Pro Tennis Challenge in Tyler will be broadcast on the Tennis Channel this year, tournament officials announced.

An $80K USTA Pro Circuit event presented by Oak Creek is scheduled for Tyler Athletic & Swim Club and is scheduled to begin on Sunday and continue through Sunday, Nov. 3.

“We are thrilled to have Tennis Channel featuring live coverage of the 2019 RBC Pro Challenge,” said Israel Castillo, Tournament Director. “This gives our tournament, players and sponsors great exposure on the largest tennis-only TV network in the world. This also gives the viewers in the U.S. a chance to watch some of the absolute best young players in the world compete for valuable ranking points and potentially an Australian Open Wild Card.”

Additionally, Tennis Channel Plus will provide coverage throughout the event. Tyler serves as the second leg of the USTA’s Australian Open Wild Card Challenge, with the player earning the most points in Macon, Tyler and Las Vegas earning a main draw wild card into the Australian Open.

The 2018 RBC Pro Challenge featured a strong field, with multiple players making their mark on the WTA Tour. Semifinalist Belinda Bencic has ascended to the world’s top 10, enjoying the best season of her career. Meanwhile young Americans Whitney Osuigwe and Caty McNally, who faced off against each other in the quarterfinals of the 2018 tournament, are amongst the youngest players in the top 200. Kristie Ahn, 2017 RBC Pro Challenge Champion, reached the Round of 16 at the 2019 U.S. Open.

I am a native Tylerite and I grew up reading the Tyler Morning Telegraph and The Tyler Courier-Times. My parents took both the morning and afternoon papers. I came to work here 35 years ago at the age of 23, right after college.
