LINDALE - In a battle of the playoff pirates, Pittsburg walked away with a 35-24 win over Crandall in a Class 4A Division I Region II matchup on Friday at Eagle Stadium.
Trailing 24-21 after three quarters, Pittsburg (10-1) scored 14 unanswered points in the fourth to move on to the second round of the playoffs.
Pittsburg took a momentary 7-0 lead with 6:49 remaining in the first when Fre-Zarian Harrison scored on a 1-yard carry and Alex Rodriguez added the PAT.
However, Crandall's Tyson Gatewood took the kickoff back 87 yards and Brandon Williams added the extra point to knot the score at 7-7.
Three minutes into the second quarter, Pittsburg took a 14-7 lead on a 5-yard Brian Baca TD run and Rodriquez PAT.
Crandall (6-5) made it 14-10 on a 35-yard Williams field goal with 4:56 remaining in the half, then took the lead 17-14 with 47 seconds left on a 16-yard scoring pass from Michael Deerman to Coy Finch.
Pittsburg made a hurry-up TD with 12 seconds left in the quarter on a 7-yard pass from Baca to Billy Kimble. Rodriguez' point-after put Pittsburg back ahead 21-17.
Crandall scored the only touchdown in the third on a 4-yard run by Deerman to go back ahead 24-21.
Pittsburg controlled the fourth quarter with two TDs, one on a 3-yard pass from Baca to O-Ryan Fisher and the winning score coming on a 10-yard run by Tray Walker.
Walker finished the game with 168 yards on 27 carries.
