East Texas Baptist scored more goals on UT Tyler than any team had this season, but it still wasn’t enough.
The Patriots scored two goals in the second half to secure a 4-2 victory over the Lady Tigers in the opening round of the American Southwest Conference tournament on Tuesday at Citizens 1st Bank-Perkins Soccer Complex.
UT Tyler, which won the regular-season ASC title, moves on to face UT Dallas at 11 a.m. Friday in Abilene. Host Hardin-Simmons takes on Mary Hardin-Baylor in the other semifinal at 2 p.m.
The ASC title game will be 1 p.m. Sunday.
The Patriots came into the game outscoring opponents 75-3 but found themselves tied 2-2 at halftime.
Leading assister Chestley Strother, a senior from Whitehouse, turned scorer when she chipped the ETBU keeper for the go-ahead goal in the 74th minute.
Kathleen Johnson put the game away less than two minutes later when Maci Feliz assisted beat her defender on the dribble and sent a cross in to Johnson.
Nikki Gordon put the Patriots ahead in the 9th minute on a free kick but ETBU’s Sasha Kotowych tied it up eight minutes later.
Morgan Monzingo, who leads UT Tyler in goals, notched her 14th in the 20th minute, only for ETBU to equalize eight minutes before halftime.
The Patriots outshot the Lady Tigers 39-3, with 16 of them on target as Christina Salas made 11 saves for ETBU.
