LONGVIEW — The No. 3-ranked UT Tyler Patriots softball team swept a doubleheader against LeTourneau on Monday, extending their winning streak to 14.
The Patriots (34-2, 19-1 American Southwest Conference) won Game 1, 8-1, and captured Game 2, 3-0.
The Yellowjackets fall to 20-16 and 7-13.
Heather Abshire (16-1) tossed a four-hitter in the first game, striking out six.
Lauren Robenalt led the bats with three hits, while Joey Cronin, Raven Rodriguez, Abshire and Brittney Batten had two hits apiece.
Cronin and Abshire had doubles, while Cronin had three RBIs. Karley Geiger added two RBIs.
Shelby Borders had two hits for LeTourneau.
In the second game, UT Tyler freshman pitcher Kelsie Batten continued to dazzle, throwing a six-hit shutout with seven strikeouts. She is 17-1 in the circle.
Cronin and Rachel Howell had doubles for the Patriots, while Brittney Batten, Robenalt and Kelsie Batten had RBIs. Robenalt and Geiger added hits.
Megan Hill led LeTourneau with two hits, while Jordan Glover had a double.
UT Tyler completes the regular season with four games against Ozarks Friday and Saturday at UT Tyler Ballpark. On Friday, the first game of the DH starts at 2 p.m., while Saturday’s DH begins at 1 p.m.
