With their seventh straight American Southwest Conference East Division title secured, the UT Tyler Patriots aim for the big prize — the ASC championship and an NCAA bid.

It all gets under way this weekend as the Patriots, East No. 1 seed, play host to West No. 4 Hardin-Simmons in a best-of-three series at Irwin Field.

Game 1 is scheduled for 6 p.m. tonight. Game 2 is 2 p.m. Saturday. If a third game is necessary it will be played after the conclusion of second game.

UT Tyler (30-10) enters the series ranked No. 12 in the nation. Hardin-Simmons has a 22-17 record.

All first-round series tournament games are nine innings and if needed, the NCAA’s 10-run rule after seven innings will be observed.

If the Patriots win their series, they will play host to the ASC Championship Tournament May 3-5 at Irwin Field.

Other first round series include: East runner-up Louisiana College (22-16) taking on West Division No. 3 seed Mary Hardin-Baylor (20-19) at Billy Algood Field in Pineville, La.; West champion Texas Lutheran (30-10) meeting East Division No. 4 seed East Texas Baptist (19-21) at Katt-Isbell Field in Seguin; and West runner-up and two-time defending conference champion Concordia Texas (20-20) facing East Division No. 3 seed UT Dallas (21-19) at Tornado Field.
