AUSTIN — Buddy McCoy continued his torrid hitting and Derick Smith belted a home run to lead UT Tyler to a 7-3 win over LeTourneau in a second-round game on Thursday in the American Southwest Conference Baseball Tournament at Tornado Field.
The Patriots (32-10) advance to the unbeaten game to face host squad Concordia-Texas (32-10), a 10-2 winner over East Texas Baptist, at 4 p.m. Friday. The winner advances to the championship game at 3 p.m. Saturday. The loser plays at 11 a.m. Saturday in an elimination game.
The Yellowjackets, the defending tournament champions, fell into an elimination game against UT Dallas at 1 p.m. Friday.
McCoy, who hit two home runs in Wednesday's 9-0 win over Howard Payne, had two hits, including a double and two RBIs in the win over LeTourneau. Logan Tucker was 3 for 4 with a double, while Reid Coover also had a two-bagger.
Others hits were by Sam Lane, Alex Bishop and Douglas Kinsey.
Jaime Paxton hurled 7 1/3 innings for the Patriots, allowing seven hits while striking out five. Jacob Clark pitched the final 1 2/3 innings.
David Perkins led the Yellowjackets with a 3-for-4 day, including an RBI. Brandon Applewhite was 2 for 3 with an RBI.
Adding hits for LeTourneau were Caleb Pritchett (double), Dillon Yates and Kyle Jacobs.
