Hours after burying a family member, John Tyler's Joshua Parker hit a walk-off single to send the Lions to a 3-2 victory over Lone Oak on Friday at Mike Carter Field.
Parker brought home Michael Givens-Washington for the winning run with no outs in the final inning for John Tyler (4-5-1).
"We fought hard and overcame early errors to get the win in the bottom of the seventh inning," JT coach Tyson Wilson said. "Good win tonight. We keep proving we can play from behind and in close games."
Givens-Washington finished with one hit and two runs scored with two steals while Decorian Blaylock had a two-run single to tie the game at 2-2 in the fifth. James Allen had a hit, a stolen base and a run scored for the Lions.
John Tyler starter James Dews allowed two unearned runs on two hits before giving way to Matthew Bartlett, who stranded an inherited runner to earn the win in an inning of work. Dews struck out five and Bartlett one.
