Texas East

State titles are on the line as 16 teams converge on the Rose City for the Texas East State Little League Tournament.

Four baseball tournaments get underway Saturday at Faulkner Park, 410 W. Cumberland Road in Tyler (75703). However, Cumberland Road will be exit-only from the park. There will be an entrance-only road just south of Cumberland Road at the service road. Parking is $10 but there is no charge for admission to the games.

The opening ceremonies are scheduled for 3:30 p.m. on Faulkner Park’s Field No. 6. All players are scheduled to be dressed in full uniform. The games in all divisions are set to start at 5 p.m.

Each bracket is double-elimination.

The Major League and Junior League tournament winners advance to the Southwest Region tournaments.

The Major League winner moves on to the Southwest Region in Waco (Aug. 1-7). The Junior League winner moves to the Southwest Region in Albuquerque, New Mexico (Aug. 3-7).

The Little League World Series for the Majors is Aug. 15-25 in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. Other World Series include: Intermediate 50/70 on July 28 to Aug. 4 in Livermore, California; Junior League on Aug. 11-18 in Taylor, Michigan; and Senior League on July 27 to Aug. 3 in Easley, South Carolina.

There is a new rule: Any person, or persons, who publicly criticize the umpires, tournament officials, opposing players or coaches will be asked to immediately leave the complex and will be barred from the complex for the remainder of the tournament. Tournament officials will ask that all players be placed in their respective dugout and play stopped until the offender, or offenders, leave the complex. Foul language or poor sportsmanship by any spectator will not be tolerated, and will result in the offender, or offenders, being barred from the complex for the remainder of the tournament.

Noisemakers such as bells, sirens, whistles, horns, jugs with rocks in them or any other type are strictly prohibited. Any camera used within the complex must have the flash feature disabled.

Texas East Little League was created in 2002 as a result of Little League Baseball asking that the state of Texas be split into two entities, Texas East and Texas West.

Texas East stretches from the Sabine River in the east to Interstate-20 in the north to Interstate-35 on the west to San Antonio and from there US-181 to the Gulf of Mexico and back to the Sabine River. Although not the exact geographical boundaries, they roughly describe the area covered by Texas East. The area is a very diverse group of urban and rural areas.
