The junior linksters took on the Eagle’s Bluff course on Monday on the shores of Lake Palestine.

The Northern Texas PGA Junior Tour continued its East Texas swing at Eagle’s Bluff Country Club in Bullard.

A couple of Tylerite’s were atop the leaderboards in the East Medalist Tournament with Reed Gesse capturing the 15-18 Division and Will Gillen taking the 13-14 Division. Lucas Latimer of Rockwall claimed the 11-12 tourney.

Gesse carded a 5-over 76 to win by two strokes over a trio of golfers — Ethan Dean of Kaufman, Denver Brown of Longview and Harrison Hopson of Bullard.

Gillen won by a stroke over Noah Nichols of Bullard. Gillen fired an 82. Latimer also won by a stroke over Tyler’s Connor Carver, 79-80.

In the girls 15-18 Medalist play, three golfers fired 85s to tie for first — Grapeland’s Cheney Boyd, Tyler’s Charlotte Hackney and Whitehouse’s Meghan Adams. J’Dee Stovall of Longview was two strokes back at 87.

I am a native Tylerite and I grew up reading the Tyler Morning Telegraph and The Tyler Courier-Times. My parents took both the morning and afternoon papers. I came to work here 35 years ago at the age of 23, right after college.
