Apache Ladies win own tournament

BULLARD — The Tyler Junior College Apache Ladies, led by three all-tournament players, captured the TJC Fall Intercollegiate Golf Tournament on Tuesday at Eagle’s Bluff Country Club.

The Apache Ladies were consistent both days of the event, scoring a 652 (329-323). The UT Tyler JV was second at 697 (357-340), while Seminole State (Okla.) was third at 723 (353-370).

In the men’s tournament, the Apaches, after shooting a stellar 298 on Monday, blew up to a 317 the second day to finish second.

Ranger won with a score of 612 (305-307), while TJC was second at 615. The Apaches were followed by Paris (313-305—618), Seminole State (320-318—638) and UT Tyler JV (311-330—641). Jacksonville College was sixth (325-325—650).

“I thought the ladies played pretty good,” TJC coach Sandy Terry said. “... really disappointed with our second day finish with the guys. The golf course won as far as we are concerned.”

In the women’s medalist race, Seminole State’s Josie Jenkins won with a 153 (77-76), while TJC’s Morgan Best (75-79—154) won silver, followed by bronze medalist Saraid Ruiz. Other all-tournament linksters were UT Tyler JV’s Hayley Mackay (85-79—164), TJC’s Kerbey Kipp (87-80—167) and UT Tyler JV’s Brianna Trujillo (83-85—168).

Other TJC golfers were Bailey McCawley (7, 89-83—172), Jessica Sachs (93-85—178) and Paige Spiers (13, 97-92—189).

Earning all-tournament on the men’s side were: 1, Zach Looney, Texas A&M-Texarkana, 71-76—147; 2, (tie) Ben Page, TJC, 73-77—150; Parker Rogers, Ranger, 72-78—150; Nick Ratliff, Ranger, 76-74—150; 5, Zac Oliver, Paris, 77-74—151; and 6, Tim Nichols, TJC, 71-81—152. UT Tyler JV’s Taylor Quiet placed 13th with a 156 (81-75).
