In a first-round matchup that could easily have been a final, Brianna Mitchell took over when her team needed it the most at the Macy Chenevert Patriot Holiday Classic on Wednesday at Haddad Gym.

Tatum's junior guard scored eight of her game-high 31 points and dished the day's best assist, a behind-the-back toss for a Jada Shans layup, in a key third-quarter run to help the Lady Eagles edge Winnsboro 63-51.

Ranked No. 5 in Class 4A, Tatum (16-0) remained unbeaten and will face Grace Community in the quarterfinals on Thursday afternoon. Grace defeated Winona 45-39.

Other first-round action saw No. 15 Gilmer top Edgewood 66-36, Jacksonville upend host Bishop Gorman 47-14, No. 7 Mount Pleasant Chapel Hill cruise past West Rusk 82-39, All Saints rout Atlanta 63-44, Brenham stifle Whitehouse 56-21 and Houston Episcopal down Mineola 59-48.

Quarterfinal matchups will be Thursday at 3 p.m. and 4:30 p.m., with two games at Haddad Gym and two at UT Tyler's Herrington Patriot Center. Gilmer faces Jacksonville, Chapel Hill plays All Saints and Brenham takes on Episcopal.

In Tatum's win, Mitchell added six steals and five rebounds while Destiny Hicks supplied six assists and nine points. Shans finished with 11 points, six rebounds and five steals.

Darby Deaton scored 14 and Darcie Mabry added 12 for Winnsboro, which had 11 assists on 19 field goals. Hallie Rose grabbed a game-high eight rebounds.

All Saints took a 10-0 lead over Atlanta midway through the first and stretched the advantage to 28-10 with 3:17 left in the second quarter. Trysten Mosley scored a game-high 24 for the Lady Trojans (13-5), who led by as many as 27 in the third quarter.

Keyona Easter provided 18 points for Atlanta, adding seven steals, six rebounds and three assists.

Grace joined district rival All Saints in the winner's bracket after a back-and-forth battle with Winona. The Lady Cougars used a 12-3 run to take an early lead but trailed 21-19 at the break.

Grace dominated the third quarter 19-0 but after Addie Daughtry (11 points, five steals, six rebounds, three assists) fouled out with 6:09 to play, Winona rallied to within four before the Lady Cougars held on.

Jo Murray amassed 21 rebounds to go with seven points while Stella Thomas hit for 10 points for Grace, which held a massive 61-30 advantage on the glass.

Alicia Jackson led the Brenham Cubettes with 17 points and seven steals to beat Whitehouse, which was led by Chelsea Johnson's 10 points. Ashley Buchinger added a game-high nine rebounds and two blocks for the LadyCats.
